The Gem - London's Summer |
Summer was gradually
drawing to a close and it was David Olsen's last week at his current role at
the Guardian. He had worked in the Guardian for five years now. He was
currently the editor-in- chief for the top story columns in the newspaper and
he had lived in London for eight years. London town had been his home for a
really long time although he still missed Aylesbury a lot; Aylesbury was a lot
quieter than London where everyone seemed to be constantly on the move.
His journey in London
began as a student when he enrolled in the University College London, UCL. His
entire stay in the University was filled with loads of work and good memories.
Adjusting to the busy lifestyle in London took some months for David. He
determined early in the journey to learn the ropes of how to easily maximise
his time and life in the busy town. His determination paid off and landed him
in one of the most sought after newspaper organisations within the town and
within a period of five years, he quickly rose to become the editor-in-chief of
his department.
Eight years was a long
time and it was time for change. He was tired of the rush hour. He was tired of
the never ending targets. He was tired of the noise. He was longing for a
soothing environment just like the one he grew up in. He had made up his mind
he wanted to remain in the media business and he definitely was not going to
return to his home town. David Olsen started his search for a new home about
two years ago even when he was not sure he really wanted to leave his current
job and home. He streamlined his search to five towns he could easily settle in
and as the months went by, he made contact with various agents and newspaper
organisations.
David Olsen still was
not sure of where to make his home until about six months ago when he received
his dream letter of offer from the town's newspaper organisation. His next step
was a search for a place to live. He was no longer interested in making runs
between buses and underground trains; it was time for him to live and breathe,
certainly time for his projected future.

She opened her eyes and
the first thing she saw was her calendar. She had been counting down to the beginning
of another school session; she definitely missed her students. She could not
believe she still had fourteen more days before she would get back into her class
room environment. She definitely missed all the buzz and the constant
chatter of her school children. Salford High School was currently making
changes to its school environment and adding features to make its students
learn in a more conducive environment especially after last session's incident with the press. The high school had determined that the new session must indeed
meet the standard of the city council and that of the newspaper organisation
within town; they had an image to uphold. It was a session of rebranding for
Salford High School.
'Oh
well! I guess I would make the best of the time I have to myself',
Marylyn Osborn said aloud. It was a friendly looking summer day in Salford. The
clouds were clear and there was no sign of rain. The temperature was just
right; it was reading twenty-three degrees Celsius. A perfect day for a picnic and
it was time to find out if her friends Evelina and Pamela would be interested in a
day for just girls like the good old days and maybe they could also do a bit of
window shopping after the picnic at Manchester Arndale Shopping Centre.
Marylyn sent SMS to
both Evelina and Pamela while trying to remember what she had in her
refrigerator that could make lovely snacks for three. Almost instantly, she
received replies from both ladies indicating their interests in the picnic and definitely
window shopping. 'Yippee!!! It was going
to be a day of fun', she screamed while dashing into the bathroom. She knew
her friends; they would arrive in no time.
